A few lines, such as Carnival Cruise Line, Norwegian Cruise Line and Cunard Line, offer 10-night Inside Passage cruises from Seattle or Vancouver. Most sail along the Inside Passage, a maritime route along the state's southern coast (and into British Columbia and Washington state) that weaves around the area's thousand islands. Some venture farther north into the Gulf of Alaska; these are often one-way cruises that begin and end at the ports near Anchorage.

Overall Review Of Our Norwegian Alaska Cruise – Pros and Cons
With nothing concrete on the agenda, we slept in until around 8 AM this morning. Don walked around collecting the remaining photos and videos returning with our morning dose of Starbucks. Given the time, we decided to grab a quick lunch at The Local to hold us over until our dinner at Q Texas Smokehouse this evening. With some coffee in hand, we went back to the room after lunch to get some work done before our 7 PM reservation. Today’s tour consisted of a visit to the Totem Bight state park and the Great Alaskan Lumberjack Show.

It was rare for many people to be “sunbathing” on the pool deck. And with this area being largely unused meant that passengers were disproportionately concentrated in other areas. When you think of a cruise ship, you’re probably thinking of a tropical sunny destination. And well, this ship is certainly designed for a cruise of that nature.

A Few Tips for Debarkation Morning
The population of Haines remains less than 2,000, according to the United States Census Bureau, and it isn't yet as touristy as some of the other Alaskan ports, such as nearby Skagway. It's known for great fishing (salmon, halibut and trout) and an eagle preserve — because eagles know where the best fish can be found. Many people trek to Alaska to commune with nature, but there's also history here that you shouldn't overlook.
With a degree in Tourism Management and postgraduate studies in Journalism, Agnes combines academic expertise with real-world experience. Alongside her partner, Chris, she's your go-to guide for an authentic Alaskan adventure. These are just a few of the moments that set our Alaska cruise apart, making it an adventure we’ll cherish forever. Cruising Alaska with Norwegian offers a balanced blend of comfort, affordability, and flexibility. Kayaking in Sitka offered a stark contrast to our Valdez kayaking trip, where we had paddled amid icebergs. In Sitka, the milder climate enveloped us in lush greenery, while the fog added an air of mystery.

Additionally, you'll have one day spent cruising the Inside Passage and one focused on "scenic cruising," where you can enjoy the landscapes but won't go ashore. This is not nearly as boring as you might think since you'll see incredible sights like Glacier Bay National Park and Preserve or Hubbard Glacier. Popular Inside Passage ports of call include Juneau, Icy Strait Point, Ketchikan, Petersburg, Haines and Skagway. Glacial ice carved this passageway long ago, and today, cruise ships and fishing vessels thread their way through the islets and channels to see some of the most spectacular natural sights in the world. Alaska might be one of the most beautiful places in the world, but it's rugged and can be tricky to get around.

Now, it was time for the highlight of the tour–our trek up the Klondike Highway into Frasier to board the White Pass Rail. During this nearly 3,000 foot climb in elevation, we made a couple stops for photo ops. We highly recommend that you do see this show as it is a lot of fun.
Day 8: Seattle, Washington
A cruise isn’t just about the destination but also the journey. And on the Norwegian Sun, that journey is packed with amenities and dining options that cater to every taste and preference. In summary, Ketchikan is a multifaceted destination that offers a mix of nature, history, and adventure. Despite the slight hiccup with the docking location, the port serves as a condensed version of Alaska’s beauty and culture. After this nature-filled morning, we explored downtown Ketchikan.
Perched over the pool deck, we had a great vantage spot of the ship with the Space Needle on one side and Mount Rainier on the other side. After a bit, we also headed down to the pool deck to catch some of the sail away party. It was certainly more lively than our recent sail away on Princess Cruises.
Like most cruise lines in 2023, NCL has moved to servicing staterooms just once per day. Still, our stateroom attendant made sure to introduce himself on Day 1 and asked about our preferences. He never hesitated when we had an additional request throughout the week either. Whenever we saw him, he always made sure to say hi and ask us about our day. We had reservations for all the shows and never had problems getting seats about minutes before show time.
However, there is a yogurt bar, hot cinnamon rolls, and a small (but fabulous) Indian section (located on the port side toward the back) that you don’t want to overlook. Some may be wondering why I cruise to Alaska so often and why I’d want to do the exact same thing two cruises in a row. It’s always magical, ethereal, with so many lessons to teach me. And it’s never, never the same.
Or if you booked an excursion, they will have a separate shuttle to take you directly on your tour. There will usually be important information printed on your ticket about where to meet up. O’Sheehan’s Neighborhood Bar & Grill was probably our favorite complementary restaurant overall.
Our Alaska tours give you hundreds of unique moments to capture, keep and treasure forever. But first, I want to mention that there are many different cruise lines and enticing port stops on an Alaskan Cruise. Our journey kicked off in the vibrant city of Vancouver, British Columbia, weaving through the picturesque landscapes of Alaska’s port towns, Ketchikan, Juneau, and Skagway. And wrapped up with two scenic sailing days in Glacier Bay National Park and a captivating encounter with Hubbard Glacier.
This was one of the major flaws of the Norwegian Cruise Line design because there was not really enough space for everyone to enjoy the views along the railings “peacefully”. We were pleased to find lots of great restaurants and breweries (our personal favorite) in each town. We were hoping that local seafood would be really affordable, but were a little disappointed to find out it was still very expensive. I can’t really suggest paying the extra cost for specialty dining. I just think it is way overpriced, service was slow and too similar to the food already offered complimentary. The main dining rooms (Azura & Tsar’s Palace) offered a nice casual-luxury feel.
